Be prepared for an emergency

• Flashlights
• Fill bathtub with water
• Battery-powered or hand cranked radio

A Boil Water Notice

When a boil water notice is issued and you need to use tap water, you must boil the water before: drinking it, making drinks, preparing food, brushing your teeth or making ice.

How to: Safely boil water for use during an emergency

• You can boil water on:
  • Camp stoves
  • Kitchen stoves
  • Barbecue grills
    • Always use in well-ventilated spaces *
• Vigorously boil for 2 minutes to kill any potential harmful bacteria

A Water Outage

A water main break or power failure may cause a water outage in some areas. But your life doesn’t stop. How can you take care of household needs without water services? Here are some ideas.

• How to flush in a water outage:
• You can use:
  • Saved water from bathtub
  • Pool water
  • Melted snow
• Remove the tank lid and fill it with water until it reaches the overflow line
• Flush normally
